Today, I woke up at 7.45am as we will be going on a one day tour. We sms-ed the guys and knew that they have over slept. Sasi and I made our way to the school gate without them. Upon stepping out of the service apartment then we realized that it was raining. We decided not to turn back to get the umbrella as it was a drizzle and we did not expect it to get any heavier. When we reached the gate, we saw the other guys standing under the big umbrella to take shelter. After taking a picture of them, Mr. Chua asked us to get shelter under the umbrella of the security guard. As more people join in, the security guard was surrounded by us. I guess he could not stand the stuffy air; he walked away into the school. We waited patiently for the tour bus to come. Finally we saw a tour bus driving to the front of the school. When everyone boards the bus, we set off towards our destination. On the bus, the tour guide apologies for being late as there was heavy traffic due to the rain.
The rain did not seem to get any small but instead, it got much heavier. When we reached, we were asked to alight. The first destination was a park, a very very big park. But…IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY!!! We did not explore the park as it wet and cold. The teachers came out of an idea of free and easy time till 3pm. We could go to the largest shopping street to shop and have our lunch. There were many branded shops like Nike, Addias, and Reebok. There were also people that are holding a brochure of the different branded shoes. We were being told beforehand that these people are actually selling fake branded shoes. If you show interest in it, they will bring you to the alley behind the shops. Over there, you can see many of the shoes similar to those branded ones. Seeing that we are from a different country, they might cheat us by naming a high price. While we walk along the streets, many of these people approach us. We did not give them eye contact and reject them firmly when the approach us. As it was very cold outside, we decided to enter one of the shops to get warm and at the same time look at their products. We left our umbrella outside the shops like what the others do. We did it for a few shops till at one of the shop, we could not find Sasi’s umbrella. It must be stolen by some passerby or being taken by mistake by one of the customers. As the rain is not really heavy, we decided to carry on with our shopping.
It was soon 12pm and we had to report to Mr. Ma about our whereabouts. After which, we went to search for our lunch. There was Macdonald across the road. Satish led us under a rope and across a chain. We realized that the purpose of the rope and chain was to prevent people from jaywalking. We decided to continue to cross the road since we are already half way through. It was not easy to cross that road as there are too many cars on the road. Eventually, we managed to cross the road safely. We went to have lunch at Macdonald. There is something different about Macdonald in China, they are not halal. They do serve pork burgers. We had a quick lunch and make our way back as the shopping street is too long to be finish within a day.
The rain had stopped. We managed to take a quick shot with some of the statue there. We walked back at a rather fast speed in fear that we might be late. When we reached, we decided to pay the toilet there a visit. When we enter, we realized that all lock of the toilet door is spoilt and there is no way to close the door fully. We saw two Chinese ladies doing their business just like that without the door closing. Yucky toilet. When everyone had reached, we took the bus and headed back to school. As many of them requested to get down the bus at the yellow crane tower, the tour bus stopped at the yellow crane tower. On our way there, one of the classmates got car sickness but luckily she was feeling much much better now. Those who do not wished to alight at the yellow crane tower will be bought back to school. Excluding the teachers, there are three more other guys including my group going back to school. At the school gate, Mr. Ma passed a sum of 400 Yuan to the main tour guide. This sum of money was given by all of us including the other group at the different school. This sum of money will be for tip for the tour guide for bring us all around these few weeks.
We went back to the hostel to bathe then make our way to have dinner. We had diao xiao mian for dinner then went out to get a dictionary for Tom. He had always wanted a Chinese-English dictionary. We took a look and decided on one dictionary. The shop keeper gave us a discount of 10% after knowing that we were from Singapore. Paid for everything and started making our way back to school.
Today, I learnt that we must learn how to listen to instruction. Yesterday, the teachers did remind us about the rain today and the weather is expected to be cold. Many did not listen and had to suffer in the cold weather of 8 degree Celsius. I also learnt to be street smart, know what to listen and believe and what not to. We were told the time planning for the next few weeks and from it I know that time is running out. We all have to buck up and get on path always.
